Geometry, visual/spatial skills, precise calculation and an opportunity to be creative all come together in the Geometric Mobile Project! You will work ON YOUR OWN to design, calculate, decorate and suspend your final creations.
Follow these steps carefully for the best chance at success
~ Figures required on Geometric Mobile:
Rectangular Prism
Triangular Prism
Cylinder
Bonus Challenge – your choice!
~ Mobile must hang in a balanced manner
~ Must make net (template) BEFORE you begin construction on your finished shape. Each net MUST be checked CAREFULLY before you continue to cut, fold and tape.
~ Think about how you can minimize the number of pieces of paper needed to make each figure.
~ You are responsible for hanging the figures, be creative!
Flow of Work:
NOTE:
(1) TAKE PICTURES OF EACH STEP OF YOUR PROCESS AS YOU MAKE YOUR GEOMETRIC MOBILE

(3) PLAN TO WORK ON THIS PROJECT JUST 30 MINUTES EACH DAY
- Plan each prism with reasonable dimensions
- Show plan to AN ADULT for approval
- Draw net on grid or plain paper neatly
- Check with AN ADULT BEFORE moving to next step
- Write down all dimensions
- Calculate Surface Area showing ALL work, not just final answer
- Calculate Volume showing ALL work, not just final answer
- Be sure to include units for steps 6 and 7
- Move onto next net and follow steps above
- Put Geometric Mobile together using color, creativity and cool materials
- Put your name clearly on your project
- CREATE A SLIDESHOW SHOWING PROCESS AND COMPLETED Geometric Mobile with all calculations
